Police Issue Warnings Over Door-Handle Prepayment Scam on Karrot App

· Reviewed by the editor

A new fraudulent pattern targeting users of South Korea's primary secondhand marketplace app Karrot (Danggeun) has triggered warnings across community forums. Fraudsters agree to meet buyers at apartment buildings but claim an urgent errand upon the buyer's arrival, instructing them that the product is hanging on their door handle. Once the buyer wires payment to obtain the front entry code, the seller severs contact without leaving any item.

So what

Refuse to send electronic bank transfers before you physically inspect the item in person when buying secondhand goods.
