Military Begins Border Mine Clearence Operations Following DMZ Blast Investigation

South Korea's military and the United Nations Command concluded that land mines deliberately planted by North Korea south of the Military Demarcation Line caused the September 21 explosion that injured three soldiers. The Joint Chiefs of Staff initiated controlled detonations on October 5 to eliminate detected North Korean minefields situated south of the border. Military officials announced that clearance operations will continue unilaterally along the frontline unless North Korea removes the remaining devices.
